The Delaware Breakfast Sandwich contains fluffy scrambled eggs flavored with savory chives piled atop salty, toasted pretzel rolls with melty Swiss cheese. Best of all, there's crunchy, savory turkey bacon for that extra touch of heartiness, with a chipotle sauce for a bit of heat! Delaware Breakfast Sandwich gets you out the door in a hurry but with a happy and full belly!
Ingredients
- 2 eggs plus 4 egg whites, yolks reserved for another use
- 1 tablespoon chives
- 2 teaspoons butter, divided
- 2 pretzel buns, split horizontally
- 2 slices Swiss cheese
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- 2 slices turkey bacon
- jarred chipotle sauce, optional, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -In a bowl, add the eggs, the egg whites, and the chives and whisk to combine.
Step 2 -In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 teaspoon of the butter.
Step 3 -Add the pretzel buns, cut-side down, to the melted butter and toast until crispy and golden, about 2-4 minutes.
Step 4 -Transfer the pretzel buns to a plate and immediately layer each of the bottom buns with 1 slice of the Swiss cheese.
Step 5 -Add the remaining butter to the skillet and let it melt until it is frothy.
Step 6 -Add the egg mixture and cook, while slowly stirring, until they are scrambled and cooked to your desired doneness.
Step 7 -Season the eggs with the salt and the pepper.
Step 8 -Add the eggs evenly to each of the pretzel buns over the cheese layers.
Step 9 -In the same skillet over medium-high heat, add the turkey bacon and cook until crispy on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side.
Step 10 -Place 1 slice of the bacon on top of each of the egg layers on the buns.
Step 11 -Drizzle the eggs and the bacon with the chipotle sauce.
Step 12 -Replace the top buns and serve.
